And the DVD fest goes on, offering me occasional respite from the fierce Canarian sunshine.
Indeed, I guess it's my stupendously good mood which is helping me enjoy these movies a great deal more than I otherwise would have done.
A crazy B-movie/grindhouse flick would have not normally been my bag but I'd already got a smile on my face before I embarked upon Alex Orr's Blood Car.
This again demonstrates my theory that the viewers mood can dramatically affect the perception of a film.
Blood Car was originally released in the US in 2007 and is finally being shown at Showcase Cinemas in the UK from Friday.
And I would not be at all surprised if it gets a cult following.
From minute one, when it is introduced by a chap in a suit to its grisly finale, this is a bizarre low budget movie, containing the key elements of Grindhouse - gratuitous sex and plenty of gory deaths.
The film is set in the near future when fuel prices become so high that no-one can afford to drive cars.
Thus, a young geek (Mike Brune) sets about trying to run one on wheatgrass juice which he buys from Anna Chlumsky (yes, the little girl from My Girl grew up and ended in grindhouse!).
Anyway, it seems like he is on to something but his motor, powered by wheatgrass, is unreliable until one day he accidentally cuts himself and his blood drops into his solution and, hey presto, it works.
The obvious progression is to make the new motor even more reliable, more blood is wanted.
Do I need to go on?
The result of our hero having a car is that very attractive young women throw themselves at him in a most provocative way, thus, it becomes imperative he finds more blood.
Blood Car is a complete send-up. Aside of the main plot, there are all sorts of tangents which add to its comedy value.
Many people may condemn its lack of finesse but I have to say I've seen a lot of spoofs - and few made me laugh like this did.
Laughs: Four: Pretty good considering I watched the movie on a lap-top (thanks to Lisa at associates for the screener).
Jumps: Two decent ones
Vomit: one scene
Nudity: actually not that much. A couple of scenes but a heck of a lot of sex talk and allusion.
Overall rating: 6/10
