94. ID:A

It's hot and my white as lard body is likely to turn the shade of a tasty lobster.
Ok, ok, it's an image which none of you wanted but I really do have to explain why I would be watching films while on holiday in the Canaries (again, Mr Burglar, the house is NOT empty).
This explains, why I took in this rather superior Danish thriller which was released across selected cinemas and on Virgin Media On demand this week (I was lucky enough to be sent a screener by Lisa at PR company Associates).
Actually, when I say Danish it is more of an international movie (Danish, French, Dutch and  English were the four languages I recognised).
Actually, I have just had a bit of a pose...I've literally just shown a Danish fella at the pool bar a picture of the poster. He claims he is a film buff but hasn't seen this movie yet because it was 'only just released.'
Well, he's a step behind everyfilm!
Anyway, Christian E Christiansen's movie is a classic in the I've-lost-my-memory-when-it-was-least convenient genre.
Its stars Tuva Novotny (she's Swedish before you ask) who was up on a rock in the middle of a fast-flowing river, unable to to remember how she or the bag containing six million Euros lying next to her, got there.
The first half of the film comprises of her trying to piece together who she is, where she is from and who she knows.
The second is her total recall of events, inspired by a violent incident.
Again, I'm being deliberately vague because the tension of ID:A's twists and turns are essential to its make-up.
However, what I can say is that it had me gripped and Nuvotny is terrific in the leading role, especially when she starts to find out that her past is better forgotten.
Christiansen's direction is taut, making the most of every shocking moment. To say that I jumped three times is praise indeed, because I was watching the movie on my laptop.
I reckon if I had seen at at the cinema I would have leapt from my seat at least twice as many times.
ID:A is another film which deserves a much wider reach than it seems to be getting. But if you can't see it on the big screen, catch it on the small one. It's worth it.
Laughs: none
Jumps: Three. It looks really odd when I'm watching a movie at the side of the pool and suddenly leaping from my seat.
Vomit: none
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 8/10
