It always gives me a boost when people comment on the everyfilm reviews (for good or bad) and I am particularly thankful to the chap who gives his opinion on Bollywood (see his post after Naachle London).
He loves the richness of the songs and dances and is a bit of a sucker for love stories.
No, surprise, he has already said that he found Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya "absolutely fantastic.''
I can't say I am so sure about Mandeep Kumar's movie.
But before I start on my view I will have to say that I am inevitably at a disadvantage to a native speaker.
There is much that I admire about foreign films but the nuances of language will always be lost (unless it's German, which I can understand). And in comedies, there are always elements that are lost in translation.
Interestingly, therefore, my favourite Bollywood films tend to be dramas like Agneepath or Murder 2, largely because they resonate more with me.
This leads me down the road of stating that I though Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya was so-so.
Sure, Genelia D'Souza is, once again, beautiful, bubbly and funny and her co-lead, Ritesh Deshmukh is nicely quirky but deadpan when needed.
And I agree that the song and dance routines are rich and varied and the film has a beautiful backdrop.
But my problem is that the storyline was horribly laboured.
Essentially, D'Souza plays the flighty daughter of a well-to-do businessman and is about to be betrothed to someone she is not keen on.
Thus, she engineers her own kidnapping by a poor rickshaw driver (Deshmukh) who has been ripped off by her dad.
They have a few adventures before she discovers that he is not all that he seems.
What it amounts to is a Bollywood rom com. And, let's face it, I struggle with rom coms wherever they are from (I'm really not looking forward to Jennifer Anniston and Paul Rudd this weekend).
D'Souza lifts this above the usual genre standard and the film is helped when Om Puri turns up in the second half as Deshmukh's grumpy dad.
But I'm afraid it was just way too long for me to really enjoy and I was fighting heavy eyelids for much of it.
