217. The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules

There are advantages and disadvantages of sitting in a jammed screen on a Saturday afternoon for a childrens' movie.
Firstly, there is a fear that I am going to be accused of being a pervert.
But, on the plus side, I get a great vibe of whether the film has met with approval from its target audience.
Interestingly, Diary Of a Wimpy Kid 2 is only rated at 5.3/10 on Internet Movie Data Base yet children and parents alike were guffawing like they were watching the Chuckle Brothers in panto.
And the moral of that story is that critics never watch through a childs' eyes. They should try a bit harder.
The truth is that both of the Diary of A Wimpy Kid movies do exactly what they should.
They have a few good poo jokes, the old 'oops I've been trapped in my underwear' gag and they have youngsters trying to outwit parents and teachers.
As usual, Greg Hefley (Zachary Gordon) is the put upon 7th-grader whose brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick) is giving him a hard time.
Meanwhile, his wide-eyed pal Rowley (Robert Capron) is cajoled into supporting him in the pursuit of the gorgeous (in his eyes) Hollie Hills (Peyton List).
Inevitably, throughout their adventures, Greg is embarrassed in front of Hollie as often as Rodrick can muster.
Gordon and Capron are a smashing team, particularly when one considers they are both just 12 years old.
Their comic timing is consistent and accurate.
Bostick, being a bit older, can sometimes appear like he is overacting. Nevertheless, he still elicited mirth from the youngsters sitting near me.
Actually, there was a granny in the audience who I thought might be in danger of expiring, she was laughing so loudly
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is no Oscar-winner but, as said, it was a perfectly acceptable movie and I'm giving it 6.5/10 because it put a smile on childrens' faces.
I forgot to say, the laughometer was needed for three outbursts from me...exactly the same amount as for Hangover 2, the movie which was actually aimed in my direction.
