Never before on everyfilmin2011 have I done what I about to.
But I was so utterly taken aback by most things I have read about this movie I scoured t'internet to see if I was alone in my view of it.
Then I found this on imdb. I have never lifted anyone else's words before but Chris Sherriff says it all:
He says: I just cannot comprehend how you enjoy this. First and foremost, you are supposed to be rooting for a group of bad guys. Not bad guys turned good but uneducated teenagers that represent the embarrassing hole in British society. First scene they mug an innocent nurse. And it never gets better.
Chris, I take my hat off to you. I would not argue with a single syllable.
Attack The Block suffers entirely from a new British disease...PeggFrostitis.
That is if either of the golden couple have their stamp on it, a movie must be hailed as a work of genius.
This is even unfunnier than Paul and that is really saying something and yet last week I was reading four stars all round in the newspapers and today it was standing proudly at 7.7/10 on imdb.
How can this possibly be?
I could certainly understand the hoodie types who were chortling in Cineworld Wolverhampton yesterday but I cannot imagine why anyone above 15 or with an IQ above that of a cabbage would think this was good or funny.
And don't say that there is a deep converse meaning behind this obvious glorification of gang culture. If there is, the very people it is aimed at would not get it.
The reality is that gangs are frightening. When they mug someone is leaves deep scars.
Their leaders don't have hearts of gold - they tend to be the sort of scum most right-minded people would want locking up.
Worse than that, this film stereotypes the police into making out they they are unnecessarily heavy-handed when dealing with the gangs and the drug dealers.
But even beyond the politics, this is just a bad unfunny movie.
The idea of an alien invasion on a council estate could be amusing, I guess. But I wasn't at all sure whose side I should have been on - the green-eyed ape-like invaders or the teenage hoodies.
Every time one of the gang members met a bloody end I must admit to having been rather pleased.
Although my greatest battle wasn't happening on screen - it was trying to stay awake.
Attack On The Block is a boring mess of a movie with no merit to speak of.
It get's 2/10
