So, having given up on Blogger ever restoring my review of Love Like Poison, it's time to have another go.
And this comes in the light of seeing what others have written and, just as importantly, now having the benefit of Mrs W's view of the movie.
She says I was banging on way too much about the nude scenes of the then 14-year-old Clara Augarde.
Indeed, I reckon I must have been because other reviews make nothing of them.
But I will throw this question into the pot again. Would a 14-year-old have been allowed to be nude in a British movie?
I reckon not. Of course, English rose Jenny Agutter was not a dissimilar age when she appeared in Walkabout but that was an Aussie film and Brooke Shields couldn't have been much older in The Blue Lagoon.
Of course, there was nothing pornographic or even offensive about the shots involving Miss Augarde.
They were much more part of the fabric of the movie than, for example, the gratuitous bath scenes in Louise Bourgoin's recent movie The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adele Blanc-Sec.
But I can't say I felt particularly comfortable with them.
Perhaps it is just my natural English reserve.
Anyway, they are two very small scenes in an otherwise quietly interesting film by Katell Quillevere.
In it, teenager Anna (Augarde) is trying to understand various changes in her life (puberty, her parents collapsed marriage, the role of the church and the impending death of her grandfather).
She finds herself continuously torn between empathy with others and being annoyed by them.
Her relationship with her mother is particularly difficult.
Posing life's tough questions through the eyes of a 14-year-old certainly gives a worthwhile perspective. And the good thing here is that Anna never becomes melodramatic about the answers which start to form in her head.
Religion takes a beating throughout but Quillevere's direction is subtle enough to mean that points aren't thwacked home with a sledgehammer.
It is also a film which is very easy on the eye in terms of its country surroundings.
Thus, with all this in mind, I'm giving it 7/10.
