Movies are a bit like life in general. If you are in a good mood, everything seems better.
I guess that can be the only explanation for the fact that in the last week I have found myself unexpectedly eulogising so much.
Either that, or I'm just on a lucky run.
Bank Holiday Monday has begun with Forget Me Not, a super little movie.
It centres on a 24-hour romance between a musician and a barmaid, has a couple of intriguing twists and then comes in with a stunning ending.
For large parts of the film I was reminded of that excellent Irish movie Once, of a couple of years ago.
It has to be said, the budget here (£1.3m), while not enormous, was ten times that of Once but the effect is not dissimilar.
Essentially, it is based around a young couple Will (Tobias Menzies) and Eve (Genevieve O'Reilly) who first meet briefly in a London bar.
He buys whisky which he intends to be part of a suicide cocktail until he looks out his flat window and sees her being assaulted.
Thereafter, they walk through London, peeling away layers of their lives as they do so.
Along the way, there are some wonderful wispy romantic songs.
And the capital's backdrop is a memorable part of the story, it shown to be a far greener and more subtle place than many of us would have experienced.
Will and Eve's brief journey develops so slowly that some may give up on it.
Don't. Yes, it is a quiet romance, where conversations only gently lead to being more meaningful and there are several rather annoying misunderstandings and consequent making up.
But it all becomes worth it by the end when by which time we have a much more rounded view of Will and Eve.
Menzies and O'Reilly, both regulars on British TV, are terrific in the lead roles, seldom being off screen.
There is also a splendid cameo by Gemma Jones.
But the real stars here are scriptwriters Rebecca Long, Steve Spence and Mark Underwood. Their words are thoughtful and ultimately very powerful.
Directors Alexander Holt and Lance Roehrig have made the film with a very light touch and it works.
So, it's not a rip-snorter in terms of being all action but Forget Me Not is certainly worth 90 minutes of anyone's time. And, I'll wager the ending with stay with viewers for a long while..
Rating? 7.5/10
