I wasn't quite sure whether to include the last two remaining Kurdish films of Edinburgh Filmhouse's Middle Eastern Festival in everyfilmin2012.
Why, well, this one was originally released in 1999 and the last one, Turtles Can Fly came out in 2004.
However, I'm counting them as re-releases. If you don't feel they are within the rules, fair enough, just count them as what Mrs W and I would describe as a Brucie bonus.
In fact, I was pleased to have seen both movies to complement my knowledge about the wretched lives of the Kurds, first exposed to me a couple of weeks ago in Close Up Kurdistan.
It made me realise how awful it must be to be effectively stateless.
Journey To The Sun surrounds the plight of two Kurds based in Istanbul.
One, Mehmet (Newroz Baz) is trying his hardest to carve a meagre living.
He has a menial job with the water board while at the same time being in the early stages of a romance with a local girl.
He lives happily, largely oblivious to the political struggle being fought by fellow Kurds but two events change all that.
Firstly, a moment of violence leads him to meet a generous fellow Kurd, Berzan (Nazmi Kirik). They become great friends but Mehmet, in his innocence is unaware of his friend's political involvement.
But meanwhile, another tumultuous event, leads him to focus more on the injustices against his people.
I suppose fiction, particularly this one-sided, should be taken with a pinch of salt but the combination of the Kurdish films I have seen in the last fortnight has made me extremely concerned of the brutality of the Turks against them.
I was left thinking that is only fate decrees that I live in a democracy and have enough wealth to be sitting by a pool in the Canaries.
Meanwhile, some folk can't even afford more than the clothes they stand up in and haven't even got a country they can call their own.
Yesim Ustaoglu created a movie where the unfairness of it all is stark.
He is helped by stand-out performances, particularly by the superbly understated Baz.
